Promotional Fair Supports Involvement

If you wanted information about some of the clubs on campus, or you really wanted a free caricature by Leo Kelly, odds are you were at the Promotional Fair on January 29th. However, if you missed the fair, there are still plenty of opportunities to join a club or volunteer.

There were tables at the fair featuring: the Association of Latin American Students, the Military Student Veterans’ Center, the International Student Association, the Advising Center, Sigma Kappa Delta, and Phi Theta Kappa. Other tables included Art Collective, Student Wellness Club, Clean Sphere Club, Sisterhood on Campus, and the new Double Feature (film) Club.

If you are new to BHC, or you really didn’t know much about the clubs (like me), then the Promotional Fair was an easy way to learn more about what the clubs offered and the people who directed them.
The table for Art Collective featured t-shirts and handmade lino-print cards. I spoke with Zaiga Thorson, who was kind enough to tell me about some of the activities the club offered, including different projects and art related trips. “The students always love the art trips that we take,” she said.

The International Student Association’s big reminder was that the Chinese New Year Celebration will be occurring soon on campus.

There will also be a Conversation Café on the 24th and 25th of February. If you are interested in joining this club or want more information, contact Juanita Zertuche.

The Sisterhood on Campus is also still open for new members. Jen Holldorf promoted, “The Sisterhood is really up for whatever the girls want to do.” New activities or ways to help the community or campus are always welcome.

The Association of Latin American Students wanted to announce that they will hold a Latino Youth Summit for seventh to twelfth graders on February 28th. There will also be a Conference in April; contact Gabi Hurtado for more information.

The new Double Feature Club is run by Tom Vaccaro and they will be holding movie viewings twice a week. These viewings will also include free snacks!

Members from the Advising Center were also at the Promotional Fair. They are now offering Educational Map Planning to students; you may schedule appointments on myBlackHawk.

Joining a club on campus is a perfect way to meet new people who enjoy the same activities you do. If you are interested in any of the clubs or groups on campus, additional information can always be found at the BHC website.
