The Quad City Mallards have been on a downward slope since the beginning of December. There have been 21 games played between December 6 and January 31, and only seven victories. Of those 14 losses, eight have been decided by more than one goal. The most substantial loss for the Mallards came on January 17 against the Kalamazoo Wings; the final score was 7-2. Iowa and St Louis’ prospects are proving their caliber for the Quad City Mallards. Of the 30 goals scored for the Mallards so far, 28 have been scored by someone who attended an American Hockey League (AHL) or National Hockey League (NHL) Training Camp this summer. The other two goals were scored by Vladimir Nikiforov, who has past AHL-experience.

The Mallards made the playoffs once again this season. All was right with the world until April 29th.

Womens hockey is seeing another addition in the form of the re-incarnated National Women’s Hockey League (NWHL). The NWHL will begin playing in October 2015, with four teams being located in Buffalo, NY, Boston, MA, Long Island, NY, and Stamford, CT.
